Welcome,
I am Rita Pare.
I believe in the transformational process of therapy wholeheartedly. I have seen personally and professionally that when we do not repair what is problematic in our lives, we often repeat it. Through the process of therapy it is possible to change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours, and to regulate painful emotions. I am truly passionate about the work I do and feel privileged to be afforded the opportunity to assist people in their healing journey.
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. I live and practice on the traditional territory of the Tsimshian in Northern British Columbia. I hold a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. I have worked at a non-profit counselling agency, public health, Indigenous health authorities and at a specialized outpatient clinic for Veterans for the treatment of PTSD. I have a specialization in treating Complex Trauma and I am certified EMDR therapist and a member of EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) and the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD). I am currently completing my third year of Core Training in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy. I am committed to ongoing training and supervision in order to uphold the high standards of service every client of therapy deserves.
Areas of Focus
I am proficient in working with a variety of presenting concerns including: complex trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, life transitions, existential issues, and relationship issues. I employ a variety of evidenced based approaches including: Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Neurobiologically-Informed Practices for Nervous System Regulation, and Humanistic Therapy. I am a compassionate and solutions-oriented counsellor with a record of establishing strong therapeutic relationships.
